Issue 12 September 1, 2006
Dear Bros,

We still continue to grow. We now have over fifty members. We are pleased that so many bros subscribe to our newsletter. If you know the whereabouts of any Old Guards who are on are “Lost Old Guard Member List” please send us their email address so we can invite them to join the group.

The Old Guard Newsletter will now be published only once a year. This will give people more time and incentive to submit articles and other information for publication. Also, if you get the newsletter and no longer wish to subscribe and be a member of the Old Guard please let me know at ccuratal@rochester.rr.com

Due to low turnout of the recent ΣΤΨ Geneseo Alumni events, a new policy regarding get togethers has been implemented. The next big Reunion Date will be in the year 2008 when we will celebrate Sig Tau's Forty-Fifth Anniversary of its founding. This will give bros plenty of time to prepare and perhaps encourage a bigger turnout. Also, the current Sig Taus have expressed interest in hosting and planning this event. In the mean time Geneseo Area Locals can still get together and arrange something among themselves as they have done in the past for upcoming Geneseo Alumni Events. Other events like our recent “Shear Madness” Event may also be scheduled. So stay tuned to the Old Guard Newsletters and Special Bulletins.

Regards,
Chuck Curatalo '63 (Pledge Class)
Sig Tau Old Guard Newsletter Editor

PS: Homecoming is scheduled for Saturday, September 30 at Geneseo. As of this writing the Sig Taus have not posted their schedule for the day. Once the schedule becomes available I will email it to those “locals” who are interested in attending the event. IN THE MEANTIME, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET TOGETHER ON THE THIRTIETH PLEASE EMAIL ME AT: ccuratal@rochester.rr.com

Founding Brother Bruce Jordan Returns to Geva
Possible Old Guard Event

Bruce Jordan creator of the worldwide smash “Shear Madness” will return to Geva to direct Steven Martin’s play “The Underpants”. This is another opportunity to have another fun-filled Old Guard Event at Geva. The play will run from January 3 to February 4. If you are interested in attending a performance and a party notify Chuck at ccuratal@rochester.rr.com . We will make definite plans if there is enough interest. Bruce’s other Geneseo friends may also be invited to attend.

The Underpants……..

The Story: Louise and Theo live a modest and predictable life. . . until the day Louise’s bloomers fall down in public –at a parade, no less. Theo fears that the incident will cost him his position as a government clerk. Louise’s accidental lapse doesn’t cost her husband his job, but it does attract two men, both of whom have fallen under Louise’s unintended spell. Unsuspecting –but greedy –Theo rents the spare room to both of them, and it all gets just a little crowded.

The Experience: Sex, lies and lingerie. This one will tickle your fancy with outrageous humor and sharply drawn characters. Full of the wild wit you would expect from the mind of Steve Martin.

The Buzz: Yes, it’s that Steve Martin. This is the latest play from the author of the inspired lunacy of Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Geva 1997-98). Directed by Bruce Jordan, the creator/director of Geva’s 2005 hit, Shear Madness.

Old Guard Notes

Hi Guys,

I (Roger Brown ’68) recently moved to Texas where I started a new job as a VP for Lone Star Steel. The company manufactures steel tubing primarily for the oil and gas industry. My new address is: 3722 Ben Hogan Dr., Longview, TX 75605. Office # is 903-656-6839, and my personal email remains unchanged. So, if
ya'll are down this neck of the woods, give me a holler.  I believe I still have a '69 composite, and I'll look for it among the piles of boxes stacked up around the house and send you a copy as soon as I come across it.

For the time being I'm focusing on finding my underwear -- the ones I've been wearing are starting to itch (it's sort of the same feeling I used to get from the Phi Lambs).

All for now,
Roger

Jack Sheehan, Founder of ΣΤΨ, continues to fiercely battle the demon cancer. Since March he has had three near death experiences, meaning if he were a cat he would be down to 6 left. The last "incident" (that's what they call them) was a doozie and ended up with 8 days in the ICU and a trach tube hanging out of his neck. If you add the trach tube and the feeding tube in his gut he now has a total of 9 holes in his body, you do the math. He remains confident that he will beat down the afore mentioned demon and resume his previous life style of debauchery, lust and sin. Your continued thoughts, prayers, etc. are appreciated more that you can imagine. (Submitted by Jack Sheehan) costumerjs@aol.com

To My Fellow Brothers:

Not many brothers know this but I transferred to Geneseo in the fall of ’63 from the Air Force Academy in Colorado and this left only two short years on the Geneseo campus to help with starting up Sig Tau. It’s amazing how you can bond with the wild and crazy (too many to name) and the more sober (a pretty small list) in such a short time. I believe it was Bruce and Jack that endeared me with the name Wally and it stuck with the rest of the brothers and, indeed, with friends on campus. I will always be thankful for that short but very rich period in my life.

In the fall of ’65, I student taught in Warsaw and got married at the same time, commuting from Rochester. Then, I started teaching math at Edison Tech in Rochester in the spring of ‘66, needing one more course before I could get my degree. In June of ‘67 I started working for Eastman Kodak. It was a tough call since I enjoyed teaching but I had more out-go than in-come and was also interested in a relatively new profession of computer programming.

There were no industry wide system and programming standards to speak of so Kodak had its own IT training department and its own mainframe programming language known as K-coder. We developed programs that ran in 40K (not meg or gig) as that was all we were allowed to use on these huge IBM 7080 computers. The other 40K was for the operating system. You’d write your code on coding sheets, the sheets would be taken to the keypunch room, and before long you’d be lugging around a box of IBM 80-column punched cards containing your code and test data. What a mess if you dropped the cards or otherwise got them out of order. It was a scary beginning.

The family (we had 3 boys by then) lived in North Chili for four years and then moved to an old farm near Churchville where we could keep our own horses as well as board others. Then in 1974, my ex-wife decided she’d had enough of being married and headed out. That was a bummer for me but, as it turns out, she did me a big favor. In 1976, I remarried (it’ll be 30 years in 2006) to a terrific young woman that I had met in the Kodak cafeteria. The cafeteria is no longer around, but my wife, Nancy, is, along with 5 wonderful grandchildren from my first marriage.

Walt and Nancy - Sandia Peak, Albuquerque, NM

After 25 years at Kodak, I took a retirement package in 1992 and headed over to St. Ann’s Nursing Home where I relaxed and enjoyed the next 7 years working in their computer department for a lot less pay but a lot more fun.

Nancy and I finally bit the bullet and retired for real in January of 2000 and have been goofing off ever since. We initially wintered for 3 years in Key Largo, Florida, but have spent the last 3 winters in the West and Southwest, mostly Tucson, AZ, where we have family and friends. The rest of the year is spent at our place on Keuka Lake near Penn Yan. I grew up near there in a little town called Pulteney, so this area is home to me and is also now home to my youngest son, Chad, who, coincidentally, also has 3 boys and a very lovely wife. If the taxes and cold weather don’t drive us out of New York State, we’ll be there for a while, so stop by and rest your feet a bit (that goes for our Canadian brother as well).

Take care,

Walt (Wally) Peek

Old Guard Jokes

Will I live to be 80?

I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing “fairly well” for my age.
A little concerned abut that comment, I couldn’t resist asking him. “Do you think I’ll live to be 80?”
He asked, “Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?”
“Oh No,” I replied. “I’m not doing drugs, either!”
Then he asked, “Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?”
I said, “No, my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!”
“Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?”
“No, I don’t” I said.
He asked, “Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?”
“No,” I said. “I don’t do any of those things.”
He looked at me and said, “Then, why do you give a shit?”

How many men does it take to open a beer?
None. It should be opened when she brings it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman?
Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will probably never be able to support you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do women have smaller feet than men?
It's one of those "evolutionary things" that allows them to stand closer to the kitchen sink.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you know when a woman is about to say something smart?
When she starts a sentence with "A man once told me..."
-------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you fix a woman's watch?
You don't. There is a clock on the oven.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do men fart more than women?
Because women can't shut up long enough to build up the required pressure.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door, who do you let in first?
The dog, of course. He'll shut up once you let him in.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
What's worse than a Male Chauvinist Pig?
A woman who won't do what she's told.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I married a Miss Right.
I just didn't know her first name was Always.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive by 90%.
It's called a Wedding Cake.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do men die before their wives?
They want to.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a bald head and a beer
gut, and still think they are sexy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
In the beginning, God created the earth and rested.
Then God created Man and rested.
Then God created Woman.
Since then, neither God nor Man has rested.

And he said...

When I was 14, I hoped that one day I would have a girlfriend.

When I was 16 I got a girlfriend, but there was no passion, so I decided I
needed a passionate girl with a zest for life.

In college I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional. Everything
was an emergency; she was a drama queen, cried all the time and threatened
suicide. So I decided I needed a girl with stability.

When I was 25 I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was
totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so
dull that I decided that I needed a girl with some excitement.

When I was 28 I found an exciting girl, but I couldn't keep up with her.
She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did
mad impetuous things and made me miserable as often as happy. She was great
fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. So I decided to find a
girl with some real ambition.

When I turned 31, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted
firmly on the ground and married her. She was so ambitious that she divorced
me and took everything I owned.

I am now older and wiser, and am looking for a girl with big tits
